Over the course of five days in August of 2017, Hurricane Harvey dumped feet of precipitation on Southeastern Texas, causing devastating impacts including catastrophic flooding. The catastrophic event posed significant challenges across the entire region and led to extremely limited resources.
The area of Port Arthur, Texas alone received over 60 inches of rain from the category 4 storm. The Port Arthur Independent School District (PAISD) called Unlimited Restoration for emergency catastrophe response for their affected properties which were left completely uninhabitable once the flood water receded.
Upon meeting with PAISD, the catastrophe response team from Unlimited Restoration pledged to provide all resources required in response to their urgent need. These resources included: large-scale drying equipment, debris removal teams, and over 200 workers, all of which needed to be available immediately to mitigate further damage and reduce overall interruption for the school district.
Even with the incredible scarcity of resources including equipment and personnel across the region, Unlimited Restoration was able to provide PAISD a large, capable team and state-of-the-art drying equipment at a time when it seemed nearly impossible. The immediacy of Unlimited Restoration’s catastrophe response with both skilled manpower and industry-leading equipment was critical.
The emergency catastrophe response from Unlimited Restoration included:
– A massive debris team that loaded and dumped over 100 forty-yard dumpsters of debris from PAISD’s impacted buildings
– Placement of specialty drying equipment to save all salvageable flooring materials
– Removal of flood damaged walls in preparation for reconstruction
Over the next five weeks, the Unlimited Restoration catastrophe response project team was able to pivot and respond to the evolving needs of the school district during a time of regional crisis. Unlimited Restoration’s available resources and large-loss emergency response management experience allowed PAISD to successfully complete the emergency phase of their disaster response and begin planning to rebuild and reopen their schools and administrative buildings in a timely manner.
